Alès has 24 primary and nursery schools which have all been renovated, rebuilt or built in the last 10 years.
Every new school year, these public schools receive 3 000 schoolchildren, plus 800 children registered in the 5 private schools of Alès.
For secondary school students, Alès has 6 highschools, 4 lycées, including 5 private schools.
In 2006, the regional government decided to build a second comprehensive public lycée in Grand Alès: Jacques Prévert Lycée which opened its doors in Saint Christol lez Alès in September 2009.
Alès also proposes a training campus (CFA des Près-Rasclaux) which plans to receive 6 000 students in three years from now. Eventually there is the Ecoles des Mines which is the pride of Alès.
This school trains 175 engineers each year and also created a technology incubator to provide permanent support to the dozen creators of enterprises of the Alès basin.
