Forêt de l’Avenir

industrial wasteland in Alès.

The Gardon banks.
4 miles of river banks running across the town are currently being planned.
Alès is involved in a fight against invasive varieties of plants, especially Japanese Knotweeds (uprooting campaign from May to September), and against Ragweeds (because of it allergen pollen) which are systematically mowed in July and August.
A revegetation program is currently being applied so as to maintain the banks and the rocks and above all things so as to reintroduce a shrubby vegetation fitted to the riversides (alders, willows, and spindles) to re-create a satisfactory biodiversity.
A weekly waste collection is organized around the stretch of water from the pont neuf to the vieux pont.
The surroundings of Gardon are very often used for teaching programs about environment, wetlands, flooding, or about “ecological corridors”.
