From June to the end of August, you can discover the heart of the town and its history through a number of themes: The upper city, the lower city, Alès as it was in the past, the Arène du Tempéras and the Old Alais Museum.
- For one person: it is advisable but not compulsory that you take a reservation at the Tourist Center.
- For groups: all-ticket visits, reservation to be taken at the Tourist Center, all the year round subject to availability.

Lower Town
The Tourist Center, the bust of Louis Leprince-Ringuet , the City Hall, the fire station of Thoiras, the André Chamson complex, Saint Joseph Church, Le Cratère Theater, place Gabriel Péri.
- This visit will enable you to walk along and discover the 18th century city walls and to make a journey in time to enjoy the most important places in the town.
Upper Town
The Tourist Center, Paster’s Statue, Fort Vauban strongholds, the City Hall, the bishop’s palace, Saint-Jean Cathedral, the Alès Temple.
- This walk will make you discover important historical places.
Commentaries, anecdotes, illustrations, will guide you through the secret streets where lies the history of Protestantism but also the history of silk trading and coal mining.
Alès as it was in the past
The Tourist Center, the rue Soubeyrane, Notre Dame School, the Maison de la Nature et de l’Environnement ( Nature and Environment House), the city walls and 12th century postern gates, the textile mill, the quai Boissier de Sauvages, the school of music, the Grand rue Jean Moulin, the Institut Les Châtaigniers.
- Old Alès no longer exists nowadays but it arouses great interest.
This walk is an invitation to discover the surroundings of the seigniorial strongholds where the convents found a shelter ( Ursuline convent, Dominicans, and Franciscan friars also called Cordeliers), but also the Grand rue where the Coq Hardi used to stand just above the old market.
The Arènes du Tempéras
A presentation of the building, of the material used for its construction, a history of the area and of the bullring, anecdotes, explanations about corridas (bullfights), a visit of the tier of seats and of the bullpen.
- Commented tour in Alès Bullring, the name (Tempierra) of which means “water-soak place” in the romance language . It also was the hunting ground of the lords of Alès.
- Departure planned for 10 am, in front of the bullring entrance, rue Amiral de Suffren.

The Old Alais Museum
Non-guided tour of the restored place des Ribes, the Old Alais square, which has now disappeared, and its many different front shops: the butchery, the hairdressing salon, the grocery, etc. and their windows, decorated with genuine objects from this time period. New: in 2010, the façade of the Coq Hardi to discover!
- In partnership with the “Amis du Vieil Alais” association, videos and photos showings about Old Alais, historical anecdotes, and commentaries.
- It is possible to enrich this tour with the Grand Alais Tour of 9.30 am starting from the Tourist Center.
- Free – all-ticket visits.
- Departure planned for 2 pm from the Musée du Vieil Alais, chemin de Larnac, ancienne Route de Nîmes, 30560 Saint Hilaire de Brethmas.

On the occasion of the European Heritage Days: a discovery trip to the historic buildings, and sites of the Grand Alès basin. Departure from the Touris Center, a bus trip to discover the unique sites and buildings of Saint Paul la Coste, on Saturday 18th.
